Color therapy is based on the colors affect people both physically and spiritually, which is used for therapeutic purposes.

The method of using the colors affect people physically and mentally, today also called chromoterapi, has long been known in many ancient cultures in Egypt, Persia, Tibet, India and China etc. areas. In the West, the use of color for therapeutic purposes has not been as widespread. During the early 1900s, Rudolf Steiner developed on the basis of Goethe's color theory a special use of color in art and therapy. Since then, additional impetus given color therapy is widely shared. Light and colors are used today in different ways even within the established health care in many countries.

Color therapy is based on an energetic approach. Light, heat, sound, color, magnetic and electric energies are different forms of energy with different frequencies of vibrations. Different colors are light waves of different lengths. Things have not a particular color, but color is due to light reflected on their surface. The visible light is only a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Light, as well as other, invisible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum (microwaves, ultraviolet rays, X-ray, etc.) affect people differently. Light also affects the blind, color affects the color-blind.

Everything in nature is surrounded by radiation, and all living creatures emit the light and radio waves. Man deemed surrounded by an energy field, an aura, which consists of several vibrating energy fields. A healthy person radiates a balanced and intense color fields that resemble a rainbow spectrum. The different colors in the aura is considered to be related to different properties. For example, red is considered equivalent to life, vitality and sexual power, while indigo stands for intuition and spirituality, having black color in the aura is not good. A disturbance in any capacity - physical or psychological - is reflected in the aura, which normally acts as a protective cover.

In color therapy uses different colors to change or maintain the vibrations in the body in the frequency that promote health and balance. The basis of color therapy is that color is vibration, an energy state, and that each color corresponds to a specific frequency. Any object, like all organs of the body, has the characteristic vibration frequencies. By adding the right frequency, the changed function, altered, because the body has a tendency to revert to its original function if only given the opportunity. Cells are said to admit only those vibrations that they need and no other.

To determine which treatment is needed, use different methods: examination of the person's aura appearance (which some people said to do) as well as the chakras-energy centers in the body, observing the color of the tongue, eyes and lips, psychological tests, noting the person's color preference and more. After determining which colors / vibrations that are missing, carried out the treatment with different agents. Light and color can be used both physically and mentally. Some variations are these: - Food has a different color and vibration. A certain kind of food can be recommended, while other foods should be avoided.

- Water may be candled by color and then drunk.

- Colours in the environment can change: clothes, bedding, curtains, rugs, lighting, etc.

- Through meditation and visualization techniques to colors and shapes conjured up in a mental way. For example, beliefs about the air that are inhaled have a particular color.
